Eiji Aonuma, director and game designer at Nintendo, has announced that Nintendo’s latest Zelda offering, The Legend of Zelda Wii U, has been delayed stating that 2015 is not a priority for Nintendo.
Speaking via a video, Aonuma stated that as there are too many ideas that they wanted to put into the finished product that they would not forsake quality to get the game out early:
“Since I first declared at the Game Awards in December that the game would launch in December, The directors and many team members have been working hard developing the game. In these last 3 months the team has experienced first-hand the freedom of exploration that hasn’t existed in any Zelda game to date, we have discovered several new possibilities for the game.”
Aonuma then went on to say:
“I have come to think that rather than work with meeting a specific schedule as our main objective, I strongly believe that our focus should be to bring all these ideas to life in a way that will make Zelda Wii U the best game it can possibly be.
We are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority. Instead our priority is to make it the ultimate and most complete Zelda game”
As a result there will be no new Zelda footage being shown at this years E3 due to the delay. In any case, we are sure Zelda fans will be at least a little happy that Nintendo are taking their time with the game to make sure it is as good as it possibly can be.
