TEAM 17 ANNOUNCE THE ESCAPISTS: THE WALKING DEAD

Today Team 17 announced that their game The Escapists would be getting a new entry into the series titled ‘The Escapists: The Walking Dead

This new game, made in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment, gives gamers the opportunity to play as the main character from both the graphic novels and the TV series, Rick Grimes. Mostly based on the graphic novel series, Rick will be tasked with surviving the zombie apocalypse at the same time as maintaining his leadership of a group of survivors, all in The Escapists 8-Bit top down style.

Within each level you are required to find a safe route for the survivors to escape and also manage several dangerous tasks to ensure that each survivor lives to see the next day. The game closely follows the timeline of the graphic novels so as you progress further in the game, you play through locations found in the comics and mirror the progress of the main characters throughout the story.

Daniel Murray, President at Skybound Entertainment, spoke of the collaboration with Team 17:

“Team 17 presented a creative plan to blend The Walking Dead into The Escapists and our response was simple.  When do we get started?   The Escapists is a charming example of a single creator’s vision come to life.  We are excited to offer fans of The Walking Dead something different and The Escapists The Walking Deadis just that.  A playful interpretation that we believe fans of great games in general will love.”

Debbie Bestwick, Team17’s Managing Director, also spoke about her excitement of combining the worlds of The Walking Dead and The Escapists:

“With well over 600,000 units sold, the award-winning The Escapists is one of the hit indie titles of 2015. Masterminding your escape from prison is hard enough but how can we make it harder? Zombies. Remember poor Rick Grimes trying to escape hospital, organise life at a farm or hold up in an abandoned prison? A little bit of awesome 8-bit pixel love later and BOOM! It is great to partner with Skybound and The Walking Dead and we are really excited to ‘escapify’ the amazing, rich and sinister world of Robert Kirkman.”

If you are attending Comic Con this year you will be able to give the game a try down at Petco Park in San Diego between 10th and 11th July.

‘The Escapists: The Walking Dead’ is scheduled for a 2015 release on Xbox One and PC
