EA announced today that the world’s number one Golfer, Rory McIlroy, will be the new face of their PGA Tour franchise.
The franchise has been without an endorsement since 2013 after details about Tiger Woods private life became public and a host of companies decided to end their sponsorship of him, EA included.
In a statement by McIlroy, he expressed how humbled he is to become the new face of the franchise:
“I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. This is a great honour, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”
The latest in the PGA Tour series was announced at last years E3, with a release date of the second quarter of 2015 and is the first PGA Tour and EA Sports game to be developed using EA’s Frostbite engine.
Brent Nielsen, Executive Producer of EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR, stated that:
“Frostbite has allowed us to take this franchise to a whole new level. The new engine drastically improves all facets of the game, from core gameplay to opportunities for brand-new modes and features. We’re looking forward to sharing a lot of great news with our fans throughout the rest of the spring.”
EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has so far been announced for Playstation 4 and Xbox One
